Installation

Concrete cracks. Once a crack runs across a concrete patio, there’s little you can do besides seal it and live with it. If a paver settles or shifts because of something underneath—such as soil movement, a rodent tunnel, or frost heave—the affected pavers can be lifted, the issue corrected, and the surface put back together. The base course under a paver installation is designed to accommodate movement through the freeze-thaw cycles that can cause concrete slabs to crack.
Not if it’s installed correctly. The patio is pitched away from the foundation to move rainwater away from the house, not toward it. A properly installed impermeable surface actually does a better job of directing water away from the foundation than turf does. Compared to a wood or composite deck, pavers require very little maintenance. Depending on tree coverage and how the patio is used, occasional cleaning may be all that is needed. Over time, the joints may need additional polymeric sand, and some homeowners choose to have the surface sealed to help protect against stains and enhance the color.
The main thing to ask any contractor is whether the crew doing the installation is actually their own crew, trained specifically for hardscape work.
